How to register a CB station and get qualified for amateur radio
October 6, 2026
Complete registration and qualification before an emergency. The process depends on an internet connection and on timelines that don’t fit in the middle of a crisis.

Register a CB (PX) station

  1. Go to the Mosaico System , run by Anatel.
  2. Complete the free registration of the entity or person responsible for the station.
  3. Register as many stations as needed under the same registration — there is no limit or expiration date.
  4. Print the registration confirmation and keep it with the radio, in case of inspection.
  5. When configuring the radio, prefer channels above 28 for operational traffic, since channels 1 to 28 are subject to interference from industrial, scientific, and medical equipment ( ISM ).

Get a COER and license an amateur radio (PY) station

  1. Study for the online COER exam, organized into three classes (C, B, and A).
  2. Take the exam through the Mosaico System. Class C already allows operation with up to 100 W of power from age 10.
  3. With the certificate in hand, request the station license through Mosaico. The authorization is valid for 20 years, or 10 upon request.
  4. If the station belongs to an entity (civil defense, university, nonprofit organization), designate a Class A responsible party.
  5. Mark the license renewal on your calendar: the request must be made three months before expiration.

After registering or getting qualified

  • Keep the CB registration confirmation and the PY certificate and license accessible during an operation.
  • Check that the equipment is type-approved by Anatel for the band and service it will be used on.
  • Train the team on the emergency operating procedure before relying on the radio in the field.
